Stephanie Williams left skid marks on the road out of Willow Springs, Vermont after she finished high school. She didn't return until her company sent her to evaluate the town for a massive development project. Back then she thought the town was way too small and too cold. Now the cold isn't as much of an issue since she's reconnected with her childhood friend, Donald Flanagan. Stephanie doesn't remember his eyes being quite so green, or his body quite so built. He's smart and funny as he ever was, and a forest-fire sized attraction burns between them.
Donald never understood his old friend's driving need to leave Willow Springs. He loves everything about it. When he learns the truth about Stephanie's project, and how it will turn his hometown into a theme-park version of itself, will it extinguish the flame that has sparked between them?
MY REVIEW:
This is a friend to lovers romance long in
the making. These two Stephanie Williams
and Donald Flanagan were not in the popular crowd growing up. They were two shy geeks who were the best of
friends.
The thing was Donald loved his life in
Willow Springs, Vermont, and Steph hated it.
Everyone knew everyone’s business, there wasn’t a lot to do, and it was
cold in the winter. So, when graduation came,
she moved to Miami.
Donald jokes he doesn’t even think she
turned in her cap and gown she left so fast.
The two never lost contact though. Steph never knew the crush that Donald had on
her. Now, she is a big-time real estate
developer and Donald is a librarian.
He has no clue she is coming into town to
chain the small-town into a city and she can’t tell him due to a DNR
contract. She knows he will hate the
idea. It has been so long since she has
seen Donald in person, she is really nervous.
She has no clue he is too.
This turns hot and heavy quickly and feelings
turn quicksilver too. Yet, in the end, for me it is anti-climactic. I just
never got fully invested with these characters.
It was sweet but for me missing something.
I give this: 3 stars.
