Kendall Atherton- a promising psychology student, has been given the most unusual proposition- payment of a whole semester's tuition fees if she agrees to treat a patient in his home. Maton Lee has been through a traumatic experience, one that sees him confined to his apartment. Vanessa- his desperate mother, just wants to see him get well. But his challenging and rude demeanor is so much more than what Kendall can handle. Defeated and humiliated she vows never to return. But Kendall has already accepted Vanessa's money and owes it to her to make one more attempt to get through to the broken yet beautiful man.
It's not long before Kendall is drawn to him, but this is not a normal boy meets girl situation. If anyone discovers she is having an affair with Maton, she will be thrown out of her course. But the last person Kendall expects to expose her is Maton himself. Except Maton doesn't count on the strength of his feelings for her and when Kendall's life comes under threat from the same man who preyed upon him, he may just have left it too late to tell her how he really feels.
“Who are you?”
The cutting voice made Kendall drop the blinds and turn. Her eyes met a man whom she assumed was Maton Lee. Why had Vanessa neglected to mention how textbook-perfect he would be? She was suddenly having a space-cadet moment as she took in his perfectly-proportioned appearance. He was like Michelangelo’s David in living, breathing flesh and even though he was wearing a suit, it only seemed to add to the impression that he was a walking art form. His strong jawline had the slightest hint of stubble, and his ash brown hair, although scruffy, had obviously also been carefully styled. His blue eyes looked like there was a brewing storm contained within their depths—the only indication that the perfect outer package housed a seriously damaged mind.
“I’m Kendall Atherton,” she said, smiling at him softly, forcing herself to appear outwardly calm—even though on the inside, she was in turmoil. She didn’t normally feel intimidated by people, but then, she normally worked under controlled conditions. Right now, she didn’t know what to expect from him, and Maton was definitely agitated by her unexpected presence in his apartment.
“Why are you here? Did Dr. Selwood send you?”
He inched closer to her, circling her, his eyes never leaving her. Kendall held her breath and looked up at him. She was not a diminutive girl at five-foot-eight, but Maton towered over her regardless.
“No.”
He circled her again. “Are you a doctor?”
“Not yet,” she replied.
“Where is my mother?”
“Vanessa had to leave. She was only escorting me up to see you.”
Maton crossed his arms and stopped in front of her, regarding her. “So, this is all her idea.”
“Yes.”
He laughed suddenly. “I should’ve known. When will she get it through her head that I can’t be helped? I wish she’d just leave me alone.”
“She cares about you, Maton. Can I call you that?”
“Well, that is my name. I take it you know all about me?”
“Not everything.”
“If you’re not a doctor, then who are you?”
“I’m an intern with Dr. Selwood. I’m studying psychology.”
“Ooh, having a little field trip, are we?”
“I’m not here to analyze you. I just want to talk to you.”

I grew up in Sydney but moved to the coast to be with my husband. We have two sons who are racing through life. By day I'm a high school teacher, by night, I write. My dream is to one day write full time. I like to do anything that allows me to express my creativity- drawing, painting, playing guitar, cooking and of course writing- in other words, I don’t switch off.
I have always loved to write, and I’ve been writing stories since my childhood. Even when life gets busy, writing always calls me back. My love for romance novels, in particular, began as a teenager where I would sneak my mother’s romance books from her bookshelf. I was hooked on reading and writing them. I have a Certificate in Romance Writing through the Australian College of Journalism and have four self-published novels with a fifth available soon.
I love to write about Australian settings, but in particular, in the heart of the bustling city of Sydney as this is where I grew up. I like to write my stories with a subversive edge and a dash of humor thrown in.
