MY REVIEW:
I enjoyed this second chance romance with a bit of suspense thrown in. Which I must say I did not figure the person who was the one bullying her.
You see, this story is about Annie Maxwell a middle-class gal from a loving, meddling, yet funny family from Brooklyn. At the time the book opens, is together with Joseph Preston a wealthy, young thirty-year-old, IT man for a bank. So, they will be moving to Singapore.
It’s the night before they are to move, and Annie comes to him saying that she can’t move to do to a family crisis. After much discussion and tears. Where Joe lets her know once again, she put her family first over him without discussing it with him first. He finishes packing and leaves.
Three years go by and they both have grown from the experience and have gained new experiences. To how they might have handled things differently but really you can’t go back, right? Both are missing the other but have made it clear to their family at the beginning how wrong the other was so how could they go back and expect the family to support them.
But when they run into one another it becomes clear to them that right under the sure-fire anger that is still there is love also. But you can’t get to one without the other.
Although, what stands out, even more, is the chemistry pull of their bodies to know it is just a bodily function. Both feel way too much anger still. Plus, Joe is upset they ran into each other so soon he wanted to get his feet under him at his new job.
I loved the way the families had such strong emotions, yet they did however overall in the end prevent them from holding them back. They needed to figure their space out in the world and with each other in that world too.
Joe’s love at first seems conditional yet you find out it never wavered. For me, Annie is the one I ended up questioning in the middle as to if she was good enough for Joe. But it all works out. I give this: 4 stars. Provided netgalley.com. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.
