Josie Barnes has always craved a sense of home. She's found that in Hope, Oklahoma--she bought a house, has a new job as an English teacher at Hope High, she's made wonderful friends, and she's taking in stray animals that no one else wants. Now she's flirting with a fellow teacher and hot high school football coach Zach Powers. But he's almost too good to be true, and Josie learned long ago not to trust in the too-good-to-be-true because it has always let her down.
A former pro football player, Zach had to pull back when a career-ending knee injury forced him to rethink his future. Now he's happy calling plays as Coach. If he could just get Josie Barnes to stop benching his players for their poor grades, life would be perfect. Instead, she drives him crazy as the stern teacher at the school and the sexy woman of his dreams outside of the classroom. He knows she's been hurt in the past, but he wants to be that guy she can trust.
The one thing Josie has never been able to count on is the people closest to her. But Zach intends to show her that what they have between them is a textbook case of love.
MY REVIEW:
Can athletes really have a purpose after the NFL right? Well, Zach Powers sure does. He is doing two things he loves and gives him, purpose too. One is coaching high school football in Hope, Oklahoma. Two, more or maybe equally as important to him teaching history classes at the high school too.
Working with the students can be challenging but he loves it. He finds it difficult recently since the newest staff member started. She happens to be none other than the sexy friend of friends outside of school that he met through friends here at school and their spouses. Josie Barnes the English teacher, she has been putting his players on academic probation.
As he walked into her classroom with a purpose today to find out why she didn’t let him and his gruffness throw her. She asked why he was there got the names of the boys, looked them up, and proceeded to tell Zach they had either incomplete work, no work, or had not made up a test or both.
She then explained to him it was not her putting his students on probation it was his players putting themselves on probation. They made active choices to neglect to do their work. She is not there to do their work she is only there to remind them and help them when they need it and ask for the work. Which they did not ask. She did her job but they didn’t do theirs.
Zach asked for the missing assignments for all the boys and said they would all be turning in their own work, in front of him, and only after it had been done and checked by him. He said he was sorry for his outburst he was out of line and his boys would be made accountable. She told him not a problem. She is willing to help out any way she can but they have to be the ones doing the work.
Later that night he sees her at the bar their friends own and where the rest of the group hangs out most of the time since they added the grill to it. She held no ill will and like always said, “Hi!” With the same beautiful smile as always. That is what he admired about her. Her kindness and her readiness to smile.
The characters and all their friends which are several are so laid back and friendly. The story has many layers to get through with all of them. So, in order to keep up, you don’t want to put it down. The parts that involve her mom either through his or interaction are intense. I give this: 4 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.
