Single mom Jenny Castelli has a temper to match her red hair. When the former mean girls of her high school insult her son, Jenny fires off a big lie—that she’s engaged to a rich, handsome guy and is bringing him to their ten-year reunion. Now she needs to find the perfect fake fiancĂ© for one night. And only one man fits the bill.
Geek turned tech entrepreneur Owen Dalton already had his heart broken by Jenny Castelli. Still, he finds himself agreeing to her proposition—even as he struggles to remember that the chemistry sparking between them isn’t real. But when Jenny’s ex-makes a play for custody and Owen is forced to deal with the family who always treated him as “second best,” their arrangement suddenly becomes very personal. And that lie they’ve been telling everyone? It isn’t nearly as big as the one they’ve been telling themselves.
MY REVIEW:
When you have flaming red hair can you expect her to have anything other than a red-hot temper? Especially, when it comes to someone talking bad about her son, Cooper. Not to mention when it is coming from the meanest of girls from high school the cheerleaders.
Not any cheerleaders but the ones that adored the man that was the football star of their high school and the father of her son, Trent. Who from the minute she told him he would be a dad was totally against it. He a has been a deadbeat ever since. Now ten years later and it’s Jenny Castelli’s high school reunion of ten years. She hadn’t planned on going to.
You see she was not ever really welcomed at her school. Her mother was the cook/nanny for a wealthy family and the family thought highly of her mother Mona and said that they would send Jenny to the school their children went to. Of their three children, Ty was the only one that ever-accepted Jenny and they became best friend which stuck to this day. Although he was five years older than she was he never made her feel less than.
When Ty married his wife accepted her and Jenny inherited her friends also which she loves so much, because no matter, the fact that they all come from money that has never treated her differently for not having any. They have always encouraged her. They all know that if she was Ty’s friend she was their friend and same for her for them.
Through these friendships she meets Owen Dalton a billionaire that she is put on his landscape project by Ty. She felt not happy about being put in charge of it because she rather put her hands in the dirt rather than dealing with people because she is not known for her tact. But once she got talking about the project with Owen she and he became more comfort about the project.
What amazed him is that it was like she had been inside his head because her presentation was what he had wanted. She was rough around the edges but he always knew what was on her mind and he never had to worry if he was getting anywhere with her or not.
When they started dating all was going well and they made a great trio with Cooper too. Owen loved her little man. But the two men before Owen that had Jenny’s heart had broken it badly so with things going so well it was scaring her. So, rather than talking it over with Owen or with her friends she decided to do something…sabotage the relationship.
It was bad enough that it has been two years of kind hellos and circling one another when at the same parties. It had been harder on both of them, than either of them allowed, them let on. Because there were still, feelings that they both had, she wanted to run from her he was too mad to want to admit it.
So, on this day she was on her way to lunch with her friends when she runs into her friends and the mean girls corner her. Letting her know that her son’s father would be attending her son and that somehow referring to him as the mistake. Getting her dander up. But when they mention that he needed a father figure she said he had one and that he was way better suited for Cooper in all ways.
She let them jump to the conclusion that it was once again Owen. So, right before her eyes she sees them on their phones. To which they announce that they were lagging in bodies for the reunion but they know that with her and her date now going that they would be sure to get a better attendance. She then went pale. Asking if she named names.
They said no of course not but that they did name is business. Now she was sunk she could either tell them the truth or save face. So, she did what she had to do she when to Owen asking him for help. Oh boy, it was not pretty but oh so funny. They both had conditions and then Owen had his own condition that Jenny had to agree with. Life had just become interesting.
What a fun book to read. The potty mouth of Jenny could not be saved by her son, Cooper even with his cures jar. The friendships were a joy and the love of her mother was an amazing thing even with her illness. I give this: 4 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.
