Rad-Reader:  Did this storyline find you or did you find it?

Kate:  A little bit of both. Since this is the third book in the series, I needed Chris to find happiness, but Bette was a character that I needed to create. She’s someone I identify with in a lot of ways, and someone I thought would help Chris figure out who he is.

Rad-Reader:  Chris had a fixation with his ex.  When really it should have been directed at his best friend from childhood.  Why was he not on a warpath of anger to get answers from him?

Kate:  I think it’s natural for people to react based on emotions, and for most of us it takes time to realize that reacting based on our feelings isn’t usually the best response.

Rad-Reader:  Bette was his polar opposite but on the day they met he says to himself she’s not his type but sexy.  Why do you think he wouldn’t let this Annie thing really go?

Kate:  Annie was something Chris was comfortable with. She fit the idea he’d had of what his future would be like, and stepping outside that box was a big step.  

Rad-Reader:  Bette pulls his covers so to speak when she says, “You weren’t dating at the time they started dating.”  Why does he not hear that and be mad at his friend for Bro Code issues and for not being up front?

Kate:  Moving On was about Chris growing up and taking responsibilities for his actions, and he just needed time to see things clearly. 

Rad-Reader:  Bette is a go getter who does what she has to, to make ends meet.  Blake watched time after time as she degraded herself never saying a word.  He said he liked her wanted to date her.  Chris sees her do it twice tells her she needs to stop that it’s demeaning to her self-esteem and not what benefits her in the long run.  Why?

Kate:  Not everyone would see what Bette was doing as demeaning. A lot of people would see it as her just making a living, and Blake was obviously one of those people. Chris, however, had the chance to get to know Bette a little better, so he was able to see it as some leftover insecurities that she hadn’t dealt with yet.

Rad-Reader:  I think Ryan had explaining to do at the very least.  For dating has friend’s girl behind his back.  His girl is the one that should be worried but…why didn’t he ask more questions or blow up at that part of the betrayal when Ryan gave full disclosure?

Kate:  By that point Chris had already come to terms with exactly why he was angry. Plus, he was ready to move on. He didn’t want to hold onto the anger anymore. It showed how much Chris had matured throughout the story, because in the beginning his solution was to run away, but by the end he was determined to stick it out and move forward by forgiving Ryan.

Rad-Reader:  Will there be a follow up to this story?

Kate:  There is another book in the series, Letting Go, which comes out in November. Chris, Bette, Annie, and Ryan all make an appearance, but they aren’t the subject of the story. You do get a glimpse into what the other couples are up to now, though.

Rad-Reader:  What was Blake even thinking?  He sure had us fooled.  Was his deal all about the lay?

Kate:  I think Blake was sincere in his feelings, but he didn’t realize how much he cared about his parent’s opinion until Bette brought it up. Even as an adult—but especially as a young adult—it’s tough to face the idea of disappointing the people who raised you, and I think it’s only natural to struggle with the idea of letting your mom and dad down.

Rad-Reader:  How did you start writing to begin with?

Kate:  I wrote on and off in high school and college, always with the intention of one day making a living out of it. But I got married and started a family young, and with four kids and a husband in the Air Force, my writing took a backseat to other responsibilities. When my kids got a little more independent I was in the perfect position in life to finally focus on my dream.

Rad-Reader:  Was it easy getting your first book published?  What was the process?

Kate:  No. The publishing world is slow-moving and highly competitive. When I wrote my first book I honestly had no idea how difficult it was going to be. I worked for about a year and a half to find an agent before settling on a contract with a small publisher, which turned out to be a huge mistake. When that went bust, I moved forward with self-publishing and shortly after my first two Indie books came out I finally landed my agent, Stacey Donaghy. She represents my New Adult contemporary romance series, but I have a handful of Indie books as well.
