He thought of her as a sleeping beauty, then she awoke…
When librarian Anna Kenner wakes up in the hospital, she’s stunned to learn that she’s been in a coma for a week, and her life has been turned upside down. Anna has always been quiet and self-reliant, but now she must ask for help. To make matters worse, the man she’s coming to rely on is a casual friend from high school, whom she always wished could be more. As Roman helps her recover, Anna wonders if this time she will be braver and have a different outcome—Roman in her arms.
Dr. Roman McQueen leads a busy life between his work at the hospital and his time spent at his family’s Montana ranch. And yet, he finds himself sitting night after night at Anna’s bedside reading her a mystery and hoping that somehow she knows that, even though she has no family, she is not alone. When Anna wakes and begins the long process of recovery, Roman finds himself by her side. He tells himself he’s being a friend even as he tries not to notice how her kindness, quiet wit and subtle beauty makes him dream that someday they can have more.
MY REVIEW:
How do you combat a lifetime of bad parenting? You just can’t. All you can do is lead through experience. This one took a couple of friends, a town, and oh yeah, a horrible near-death accident.
You see Anna Kenner a librarian was on the highway at night when her car goes over the edge of the road. It rolls several times landing on its roof. She hits her head so hard on the driver’s side window she ends up in a coma for a little over a week.
She then wakes to find an old high school classmate just can’t remember his name yet. Slowly her memory is returning with startling results of how fast things can change. The high school friend is Dr. Roman McQueen. From a wealthy ranching family who also owns a resort in town also. She can’t understand why he’s there because he’s there, other than to help translate doctor talk to her, because really in school they just said hello here and there.
After another week she is transferred to a rehab facility. Where he goes to visit her there too. Now mind you, she finds out from her BFF that while she was in the coma he read to her from a book series that she loves a travel mystery.
After all, her hard work and a month she is ready to go home. He was her ride. Feelings were on high alert for the both of them. But with his past history of childhood cancer and his busy schedule, could he really have a normal life?
With her family background of bad luck women, who couldn’t keep men in their lives, who said, "Never rely on men." She was too leery of anyone but especially men, that wanted to get too close to her heart. She would automatically push them away. Her grandmother told her she always needed to provide for herself that she never needed a man. She did, however, need affection and love…
See how they go from friends to more. I give this: 4 stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com.
