It's Christmastime in the quaint island town of Cloud Bay, where love is always in season... Will Fraser has believed in love at first sight since the day he first laid eyes on Mina Harper five years ago. There was only one problem: She was happily married. Then, when Mina's husband was killed by a drunk driver, Will figured she'd want nothing to do with a guy who owns a whiskey distillery. So he's kept his feelings locked away, knowing that not even a Christmas miracle would be enough to melt Mina's heart. . . Mina believes her days of true love are behind her. Since losing her husband she's kept to herself, content to do her own painting and stay out of the limelight that comes with her famous family. But when, after a freak accident, Will comes to her rescue, Mina can't quite get him out of her mind. As curiosity turns into a fling during Cloud Bay's first Christmas Festival, she finds it harder to convince herself that her feelings for Will are just mistletoe-inspired. Could Mina be ready to lay the past to rest and finally admit that what she really wants for Christmas--and forever--is Will?
MY REVIEW:
At eighteen Mina Harper in love with the man of her dreams marries him thinking she would live the rest of her life with him. Yet, at twenty she is already a widow and has been for almost three years now. She had no way to cope in a way that was one hundred percent healthy.
Her mother avoided reality pretty much by being on the road taking pictures and her father spent most of his on the road, in a bottle, all while trying to find bliss in and out of a divorce. Out of one of the other marriages, she has two siblings, Faith and Zach.
They like their father had musical talent and were a duo for a long while until their father because ill with cancer and faith stayed to care for the empire he acquired and Zach broke away on his own causing bad blood with him and Faith. It turns out Faith is good at what she does and when she meets Caleb White a singer, things are looking up for her.
Meanwhile, to cope with everything Mina turns to her painting which no one knows she loves and does. So, when she is good enough to get her own show in California she jumps at the chance and she doesn’t go under the Harper name, wanting no association to her father’s fame she wants to earn this on her own. She uses her mothers maiden name. She decides to keep it a secret.
But when she gets hurt trying to change a tire in a storm and Will Fraser is the one to the rescue she is beside herself. She is not only getting mixed feelings from her emotions but from her thoughts. She wants nothing to do with him because he and his brother run a bar and own an up and coming whiskey distillery already five years in the making. Logically, she knows it is wrong to hold all drinkers against him because it was a drunk driver that killed her husband. But for some reason she does.
Not to mention, she starts to find him irresistible. From a drawing perspective. But she realizes how kind he was to help her and her dog that stormy night and to stay all night with her until her stepmother could be with her. He is good friends with Faith her sister, she keeps point Mina in Will’s direction because she thinks they would be good together. He just happens to be the first person she tells about her painting.
This book has merits but for me trying to read it during my busiest time of the year. Couldn’t do it my best because it just seemed to be going so slow. It did have some very cute moments I will say. But not enough to keep me reading all in one sitting. Just not enough conflict to keep my interest or humor to jazz it up but still sweet. I give this: 3 stars. Provided by netgalley.com.
