Farming family land on sunny Crestler’s Key, the sweet, sexy Littleton brothers are notorious bachelors. But all that will change when the right woman comes along…
There aren’t many things Charlie Littleton values more than his lifelong friendship with his buddy Lucas, currently home from a tour in Iraq. But when he discovers that Lucas’s younger sister, Lila, is back to assist the town’s overburdened veterinarian, Charlie is torn. She’s no longer the skinny, awkward kid he remembers, but a gorgeous woman—one Lucas would never approve of him dating. When Lucas asks him to watch out for Lila when he’s called to duty again, Charlie can’t say no—but he can’t pretend it’s easy to ignore his feelings either.
As a teen, Lila crushed on Charlie—hard—and the man he’s grown up to be is even more wonderful than she dreamed. Relationships are a tricky business, though, and too much history is at stake to risk one now. But every moment they’re together is heated by their simmering attraction—and one day an impulsive kiss leads to much more. What’s tangled in a matter of loyalty soon becomes a question of the kind of love worth chasing…
MY REVIEW:
The dynamics of families are always so interesting to me. I guess to see just how normal I am. Crazy happens in every family some more than
others. This one only had little
outburst more like blinks. The Littleton
Brothers were close as boys and as adults they were forging new relationships
with boundaries.
Especially, Charlie who
had left Crestler's Key, Kentucky and had moved to Florida for about eight
years. After learning a hard lesson, he
came home to the comfort of his family and hometown. He was able to jump back into the family farm
and they had a Dive shop and the four hundred thousand followers he was helping
with the interest of the business, off his dive shop.
Yet, through all of it, his heart ached for the one person his heart wanted yet couldn’t have. The sister of the man he was meeting for
lunch who had also moved back to their hometown, Lucas Jacobs. Yet, it was only his home base due to being a
Green Beret lifer. Once at lunch Lucas
says his unit has been called to active duty again and that he needs Charlie to
protect his sister. What throws Charlie
is that he didn’t say, “watch out” or “watch over” his normal wording. When he looked up to say something Lucas had
this far-off look.
Charlie dropped it
thinking if it was for him to know Jacob would tell him. Then, it clicked that it had to mean she was
in town. So, he started to ask questions
like, did she finish school? Had she
gotten married? Is she working?
All of which got Lucas’s
heckles up and told Charlie, “Don’t even think about it. Stay away from my sister.” It killed Charlie but Lucas was his best
friend. So, when his dog becomes ill and
he ended up at the Vets and it turned out the regular Vet was out and the new
Vet Lila Jacobs the girl Charlie had given his heart to years ago was there he
knew it would be difficult to honor his friend request.
But when Lila’s life is
put in fear again and she tries to play it off Charlie’s antenna’s go up. Lila realizes the only time she hasn’t been
in fear in the last six months has been when she has been with Charlie. When she confides her secret things change
for both of them.
I totally enjoyed their
friendship to more relationship how they learned and shared and didn’t rush
trying to find out about each other as adults.
Trying to honor her brother and his best friend. I still felt for her that she felt he put her
brother first. I give this: 4
stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at
