Working two jobs to support her infant daughter is harder than anything Penny Richards has ever done, but it sure beats living under the rules of her stepfather, a television preacher who demands a picture-perfect family. And if Penny hadn’t struck out on her own, she never would have met Travis Calhoun. The intensely physical heavyweight brawler has a way of drawing out her wild side. But Travis lives fast, with no responsibilities—and that just isn’t for Penny.
Most of the women in Travis’s circle wear tight clothes, high heels, and tons of makeup—not pearls or plaid headbands. But once he works past Penny’s inhibitions, Travis discovers a kindred spirit who longs to trust someone with her body, and her secrets. Still, Travis can’t help but wonder if this rich girl is just slumming it before she returns to her privileged life. Now it’s up to Penny to prove that she wants her hard-edged, hard-loving fighter just the way he is.
MY REVIEW:
When we’re young we are taught to believe
in so many things we follow out of blind faith and love for our parents. But when Penny Richards’s father passes away
at seven and her mother married Kip Owens, a television preacher her world
changed. On television they were the
perfect family. When Penny was sixteen
her mother died of cancer but Kip had already adopted her so he was stuck with
her.
Then at 18 she finds herself pregnant but
instead of being the good Godly Man Kip sends her away because he called her
all kinds of vile names for getting herself pregnant outside of marriage. But for Penny she was a young, scared, and
confused young girl who thought this man of 30 actually loved her. He didn’t and in fact to add injury to insult
he’s married too. She had no knowledge
of that piece of information beforehand.
Once she gives birth she runs away from
the wayward home her stepfather sent her to and the hush money, for daughter
Sarabelle; that the father of the baby gave her, and disappeared. To make him look like a concerned parent to
the viewing TV audience they put out a missing person’s report. Penny ended up in Florida in a little beach
town, working two jobs to make ends meet.
Her first night bartending she drops a tray of glasses when the most
handsome man she ever seen comes in, Travis Calhoun.
Travis is an MMA fighter. Fast hands, who goes fat through women than
anything. He’s a heavyweight champ and
the gym he trains at and the coaching team side with HBO to do a documentary. And he alone has really helped ratings. So the money was a huge payout. With a promise of more to come.
Although Travis pursues Penny every day
for a year before she’s going at it with him for coffee or a meal. At this event they kiss happens and Bam! They are on.
Travis who wants no ties finds himself wanting and thinking about her
all the time. The same for Penny. Then she hears straight from his mouth he doesn’t
like kids and may never be ready for marriage.
Game changer for Penny.
Especially when she hasn’t told him about Belle yet or maybe never. Trust issues.
She starts to tell him when his twin
sister goes to give birth to their own set of twins. So on their date he gets a text saying that
they are having to go to the hospital.
Penny gets one too saying Enzo is taking Belle with them to the
hospital. Panic sets in because she knows he will find out now. But he says no ties so she puts part of her
fears away saying she’ll tell as soon as they get to the hospital…
I loved this book. The transitions of emotion that Travis goes
through is interesting. He says things,
that most only wish they could say out loud.
Belle just steals your heart the way she stole Travis’s heart. Such a good emotional book with a HEA. I give this 5++++ stars. Provided by netgalley.com. Follow us at:
